Spring 2010

  1. Go to the store after Easter to look for small candies or other items that can be used in a treasure chest in your classroom.
  2. Unit 1 suggests using stuffed lions in centers. If you do not have these, check with parents to see if they have some in their home (be sure to note who gave which stuffed animal). Another option is to look in local discount or dollar stores. Having them for the children to play with adds great visual interest.
  3. Take a close look at your inventory at the beginning of the quarter. Do you need construction paper, glue, new crayons, paper plates, and other items that are often used for crafts? If so, let the person who does the purchasing of these items know.
  4. Send home a monthly letter to parents making them aware of any special activities that may be taking place in your classroom (Easter party, Mother’s Day celebration, etc.) It’s also a great way to let them know of any items you may need that they can help provide (empty toilet paper and paper towel tubes, egg cartons, washed applesauce cups, etc.)
  5. NOTE: For the SUMMER quarter, plastic eggs will be used, so be sure to keep them in an easy-to-get-to place after Easter. Also, empty rectangular tissue boxes will be used in the second unit of the SUMMER quarter, so begin collecting them now.

  1. Bring a brick to class and have each student sign their name on it with a permanent marker as a reminder of God’s wall of protection. Keep it in a place where it is visible to the students.
  2. Take a close look at your inventory at the beginning of the quarter. Do you need pencils, markers, erasers, and other items that are often used in the classroom? If so, let the person who does the purchasing of these items know.
  3. Check out after Easter sales for small candies (Skittles, Sweet Tarts, M&Ms, etc.) that can be placed in a treasure chest. Also, yard sales are a great place to find clothing that can be used for dramas and costumes for monologues for your class.
  4. Look ahead to the lessons in the upcoming weeks. Make a list of any items for a CONNECT activity or craft that are needed. If you do not have an item, check with parents of the students in your class. Many will be happy to let you borrow an item or provide items for a lesson.
  5. Use the backside of the Family Links to send home a monthly letter to parents making them aware of any special activities that may be taking place in your classroom (Easter party, Mother’s Day celebration, etc.) or other important dates they may need to know about.
